KP CM Inaugurates Rs2.3bn Safe City Project in Peshawar

The Peshawar Safe City Project, first conceived in 2008, has finally been inaugurated after nearly 18 years. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mohammad Sohail Afridi launched the project at the city’s police headquarters. The initiative aims to strengthen security, surveillance, and policing in the provincial capital.

Developed for Rs2.3 billion, the project introduces a modern monitoring system to improve crime control and coordination among law-enforcement agencies. Authorities say it will help police track criminal activity more efficiently and respond more quickly to incidents.

Under the project, 711 cameras have been installed at 133 key locations across Peshawar. The cameras are connected to a central control room where officials can monitor activity in real time. The system also utilizes artificial intelligence and automated video analytics to detect suspicious activity and generate alerts for law enforcement.

Speaking at the event, Mohammad Sohail Afridi said maintaining law and order is a top priority for the government. He added that the Safe City system will help prevent crime and improve public safety, and similar projects will be launched in other divisional headquarters of the province.

He also noted that security challenges have increased in recent years due to regional instability, making modern technology and coordinated policing more important than ever.
