The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has reduced in-person classes to four days a week for the next two months due to concerns over fuel supply and rising petroleum prices.
Under the new decision, all public and private schools, colleges, and universities will remain closed on Fridays and Saturdays across the province. Educational institutions have been advised to continue online or hybrid learning where possible during the remaining working days to minimize disruption to studies.
The decision is part of the government’s fuel conservation measures. These were approved by the provincial cabinet in response to the regional situation affecting petroleum supplies. Officials also cited the possible pressure on Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves.
Authorities have also asked government departments to hold meetings online, use e-Office for official work, limit official vehicle convoys, and restrict the use of helicopters to emergencies. District administrations have been directed to reduce decorative lighting in markets and wedding halls and regulate late-night events to save energy.
