Some Limitations of ChatGPT You Might Not Know

limitations-of-CHATGPT

ChatGPT has taken the world by a whirlwind. It provided a missing component to those who were stumped when it came to content creation. As a result, it has provided ease of access to various types of information and is rather convenient. It can answer questions, it can summarize documents, and also write software.

However, convenience comes at a price; putting people out of jobs being researchers, designers and professors. These professionals are extremely vocal about the obvious downsides to this potentially valuable form of artificial intelligence. Get to know Artificial Intelligence Scope in Pakistan

Today, we will discuss these shortcomings in this blog and dive further into why this is:

Irregular Speech Patterns

When humans interact, they have lots of conversational tools to add flare to their speech. This is not present in the content that an AI produces. To a well-versed reader, the lack of regular speech patterns and use of, for example, idioms, is a giveaway that humans were not behind crafting it. This irregular, formal speech pattern does not come off as normal and is especially unnatural.

Lack of Expression

ChatGPT may copy art, but it lacks the actual characteristics of artistic expression. Expression is the act of communicating thoughts or feelings. ChatGPT does not have the capability to incorporate expression into its produced content which means it doesn’t have the capacity of touching people emotionally on the same level as a human can – because it has no actual thoughts or feelings; the human element.

AI Logic vs Human Logic

Logic is the reasoning conducted or assessed according to strict principles of validity. Logical AI involves representing knowledge of a programmer’s world, its goals, and the current situation by programmed logic. The programmer decides what to do by inferring that a certain action or course of action is appropriate to achieve the goals. This in layman’s terms refers to the fact that an AI is ultimately programmed by man itself and even though it may evolve over time and emerge sentient, it has not acquired all the experiences and subjectiveness of human logic spread across the almost 8 billion people on this planet. These are the little things that make us human, there is no hard and fast rule, and things are certainly objective in one facet of life but the subjectiveness of opinions and basic philosophy, which is all from the mind, will always be lacking.

Literal vs Philosophical

In the dictionary, the word “literal” is defined by taking words in their usual or most basic sense without metaphor or exaggeration. This means there is no room for understanding or even compassion. AI’s have a tendency to word things extremely literally without any foresight, thought or even considering the consequence of what is being said. It is just saying them, an amalgamation of words and programmed proficiency. The human mind is something that is still not completely understood till this very day. The Greek philosophers were renowned for their ever-growing minds and questions to humanity, ultimately trying to crack the code of why things are the way they are. This type of deep retrospection and understanding does not come from one human, a 100, or even 1000. It is the knowledge of humanity with different colorful minds and thoughts.

These are some known downsides of AI ChatGPT. Even though it definitely has its pros and cons like most things, one could say the pros outweigh the cons. This is true for the most part as we are creatures of convenience and if we can learn something new without say, spending extreme amounts of money, not having to go out of our way to learn new things or lessen a load at work, it would be a win in the eyes of humanity. Even though it may eventually influence an entire era due to its convenience, it lacks many key aspects when it comes to conveying human thought and emotion.
